Tritons Finish Strong With Wins Over No. 11 Indiana, Bucknell

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Second half play continued to dominate in day two at the Aztec Invitational as the No. 17 UC San Diego women's water polo team earned a pair of victories to finished the weekend at 4-0.

The Tritons defeated No. 11 Indiana 10-7 Sunday morning, followed by a 7-4 win over Bucknell.

UCSD now holds a 14-8 overall record this season. The Tritons are also on an eight game win streak, with back-to-back tournament sweeps.

In game one, the Hoosiers came out with two unanswered goals to take a 2-0 lead until the last minute of play, as Rachel Brooks scored UCSD's first goal of the game to put it at 2-1 at the end of the first.

Alexis Wieseler led with two goals in the second quarter to even the match at three-all. Wieseler's second goal came with just seven second remaining in the first half.

The lead went back and forth through the third as the squads matched each other with two apiece.

The Tritons posted an impressive five-goal fourth quarter to out play the Hoosiers and take the win.

Back-to-back unanswered goals by Sarah Lizotte and Julia Kirkland gave UCSD the largest lead of the game with 2:42 remaining. The Tritons never looked back as they earned the 10-7 victory.

The wear of the weekend took its toll in the final game of the weekend for both UCSD and Bucknell, as each team could just get one shot to go in both parts of the first half.

The Tritons made a push through the third quarter, as back-to-back six on five opportunites proved to be a pivotal moment for UCSD, as they gained a 4-2 lead.

A shot deflected by Wieseler defending two meters put BU back within one, but ball movement down the lefty side; Miller to Guiliana, into Lizotte earned the Tritons a five-meter penalty shot and goal to regain a comfortable two goal lead.

An insurance goal by Kirkland gave the Tritons the 7-4 lead at 4:16 and neither team would net another goal through the remaining four minutes, giving the Tritons their final victory of the weekend.
