LA JOLLA, Calif. - No. 10 UC San Diego improved its season record to 8-1 Friday, defeating Concordia University (Irvine), 5-4, at Northview Tennis Courts.

The Tritons won two of three doubles matches and three of six in singles play to top the Eagles.

UCSD's Sam Ling and Junya Yoshida teamed up at No. 2 doubles to beat CUI's Jan Guler and Rafael Countinho, 8-3. Max Jiganti and Kona Luu followed their teammates' example at No. 3 doubles, beating Ashkon Babaee and Patrick Szeremata by the same margin.

The Tritons went on to capture half of the singles wins, with Junya Yoshida, Austin West, and Kona Luu securing victories at the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles positions, respectively. Both Yoshida and Luu held their opponents to matching scores of 6-1, 6-1.

"This was a real solid win today for us," UCSD head coach Eric Steidlmayer said.

Concordia, ranked 11th in the NAIA, dropped to 2-4 on the season.

UCSD will be back on the courts Saturday, Feb. 25 as it hosts Whittier College at 3 p.m.
