SAN DIEGO - The UC San Diego men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to crosstown rival Point Loma Nazarene on Tuesday afternoon.
The Tritons, falling to 10-9 overall, received wins in the singles ladder from junior Vincent Nguyen and freshman Junya Yoshida at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively. PLNU, a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), improves to 10-8 in 2010 with the victory.
Nguyen topped the Sea Lions' Trent Brown, 6-2, 6-3, to capture his team-high 14th win of the spring season. Yoshida, playing in his first year with UCSD, is not far behind in victories at 11. Tuesday's win came in a 6-4, 6-2 result over Travis Albaugh.
Along with the singles victories from Nguyen and Yoshida, the Tritons also gained a point from a doubles win posted by Sam Ling and Naveen Dixit. The UCSD duo defeated the PLNU's David Jaehnig and Travis Albaugh at the No. 3 position, 8-6.
The Tritons will make a Northern California trip later this week for three matches, the first of which is a 2 p.m. contest on Friday against UC Davis.
