SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's water polo team finished the Aztec Invitational with a 3-1 record as UCSD lost to No. 18 Princeton 6-4 and defeated Marist 9-5 on Sunday afternoon on the San Diego State campus. In the win against Marist, the Tritons scored four goals in both the second and third quarters to cruise to the win. UCSD led Princeton in the first quarter and the score was tied at halftime but the Tigers edged the Tritons by a 6-4 margin. The Tritons are now 7-13 on the season.
In the win against Marist, UCSD and the Red Foxes were tied 1-1 after the first quarter. UCSD scored four times in the second quarter to take a 5-4 lead at halfime. In the second half, UCSD dominated, scoring four more goals but holding Marist to one score. Neither team would net a goal in the fourth.
Kirsten Bates scored five times while Audra Bloom added two goals. Felicia Orozco and Jessica Tran also scored against Marist.
In the loss to Princeton, UCSD led 2-1 after the first quarter and the game was tied at 3-3 at halftime. Princeton outscored the Tritons 2-1 in the third quarter and 1-0 in the fourth quarter to close out the win.
Audra Bloom scored three goals against the Tigers as Stephanie Bocian also scored. Markayla Quane had four saves in goal.
UCSD is back in action when it takes on Hawaii on Thursday, March 25. First sprint is set for 6:00 p.m. at Canyonview Pool.
