SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's water polo team extended its season-high winning streak to four games on Saturday afternoon at the Aztec Invitational at San Diego State. UCSD defeated Wagner by an 11-6 score as the Tritons scored five goals in the third quarter.
Kirsten Bates and
Audra Bloom scored three goals each in the win. In its second game of the day, UCSD defeated Maryland by a 12-7 score.
Stephanie Heinrich scored five times as UCSD scored seven goals in the first half. The Tritons improve to 6-12 and will face No. 18 Princeton and Marist on the second day of the Aztec Invitational on Sunday.
In the win over Wagner, UCSD scored three goals in the first and led 4-2 at halftime. UCSD exploded to score five goals in the third quarter, while limiting the Hawks to just two scored to take a 9-4 lead into the fourth period. Wagner and UCSD scored two goals each in the final period.
Against Wagner, Bates and Bloom scored three goals each. Heinrich and Jessica Tran scored two goals each while Stephanie Bocian also scored. Markayla Quane tallied nine saves in goal.
In the second game, the Tritons matched up against Maryland. UCSD scored four goals in the first and led 4-2 after the first period and 7-3 at halftime.
In the second half, the Tritons scored three goals in the third quarter, while holding Maryland to just one score and led 10-4 through three. UCSD would win the game by a 12-7 score.
Heinrich scored five goals, while Bates and Bloom each scored twice apiece. Hanalei Crowell, Felicia Orozco and Tran added goals for the Tritons.
Markayla Quane racked up 12 more saves against the Terrapins.
UCSD is back in action on Sunday for day two of the Aztec Invitational. UCSD takes on No. 18 Princeton at 8:00 a.m. and then concludes the day against Marist at 1:00 p.m. Both matches take place on the SDSU campus.
