IRVINE, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's water polo team dropped two games on the first day of the UC Irvine Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Corona Del Mar High School. The Tritons began the day with a 15-3 loss to No. 1 Stanford. In UCSD's second game of the day, UCSD lost to No. 9 Cal State Northridge by a 12-7 margin.
Markayla Quane had a busy day in goal, making a combined 16 saves in both losses.

Audra Bloom each scored two goals on the day. UCSD drops to 2-11 this season.
In the loss to the Matadors, the Tritons were within 4-2 after the first quarter but the Matadors outscored the Tritons 5-1 in the middle periods. UCSD did outscore CSUN 4-3 in the fourth period in the 12-7 loss. Bates and Heinrich scored two goals apiece while Felicia Orozco, Stephanie Bocian and Audra Bloom also scored.
In the game against Stanford, the Cardinal led 4-0 after the first quarter and 8-1 at halftime. Stanford scored four more unanswered goals in the third quarter to lead 12-1. The Tritons were able to score two goals in the fourth quarter as the game ended with a 15-3 score.
Against Stanford, Bloom, Jessica Tran and Hanalei Crowell scored for the Tritons. Markayla Quane had 11 saves in goal. 10 different Cardinal scored for Stanford.
UCSD is back in action on Sunday for day two of the UC Irvine Invitational. The Tritons will take on either UC Santa Barbara or San Diego State at 10:30 a.m. at Corona Del Mar High School.
