LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's water polo team played a strong first-half but lost to No. 7 Loyola Marymount by a 10-4 score on Saturday afternoon at Burns Recreation and Aquatics Center. UCSD would score three of its goals in the second quarter as

Kirsten Bates and
Stephanie Heinrich scored. UCSD trailed by a 5-4 margin at halftime. LMU outscored the Tritons 5-0 in the second half to secure the victory. With the loss, UCSD drops to 2-9 while the Lions improve to 5-1.
Trailing 2-0 in the first quarter, Stephanie Sasaki scored a goal with :10 left and UCSD trailed 2-1 through the first.
In the second, a goal by Bates with 4:46 left tied the game at 3-3. LMU scored the next two goals at 4:07 and 3:27 and LMU led 5-3. UCSD's Bloom netted a goal at the 2:17 mark to pull UCSD within 5-4 at halftime.
In the third quarter, LMU scored three unanswered goals to take an 8-4 lead. The Lions would tack on two more goals in the fourth to close out the scoring at 10-4 LMU.
UCSD is back in action next weekend at the UC Irvine Invitational. UCSD begins the tournament against No. 1 Stanford.
