"My favorite thing this summer was going to Spain to play soccer.  I've been studying Spanish for awhile and it was my chance to put it in a real world situation and it was cool.  I also got to place soccer which is my favorite hobby.  I've also never been to Spain, which is kind of like Southern California in a lot of ways.  The Culture was very interesting and it was nice to be submersed in a culture different from ours."
