SANTA CLARA, Calif. ?Sydney Gstettenbauer of the UC San Diego women's water polo team poured in a career-high nine goals to help the Tritons capture fifth-place at the Western Water Polo Association Championships in Santa Clara. With nine scores, Gstettenbauer ties the all-time UCSD single-season goals scored mark, tying Julie Swail with 84 goals, a mark that has stood since 1995. The Tritons trailed Colorado State after the first quarter but outscored the Rams 9-2 in the middle quarters to cruise to the 14-9 win. UCSD finishes the season with a 12-20 mark.
After trailing 3-2 in the first quarter, the Tritons outscored CSU 4-1 and 5-1 in the next two quarters to take command and led 11-5 after three periods.
Gstettenbauer did most of her scoring in the last two quarters, scoring seven goals in the final two periods in her final collegiate game at UCSD.
Also scoring for the Tritons was Kirsten Bates with three scores, Audra Bloom and Hanalei Crowell.
