SANTA CLARA, Calif. ?The UC San Diego women's water polo team advanced to the Western Water Polo Association Consolation Championship game with a 14-4 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday afternoon in Santa Clara. The Tritons stormed out to an 8-1 halftime lead and cruised to the win. Kirsten Bates scored four times to pace UCSD, while Jessica Tran had three goals and Kelsey Schultz and Sydney Gstettenbauer scored two each. The Tritons will face Colorado State at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. With the win, UCSD improves to 11-20.
Jessica Tran scored two goals while Kirsten Bates and Bridgette Bugay scored for UCSD's 4-0 lead after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Bates scored three times while Kelsey Schultz added a score on the Tritons led 8-1 at halftime.
In the third period, Tran and Hanalei Crowell netted goals for the Tritons and UCSD led 10-3 through three periods.
In the final period, Sydney Gstettenbauer scored twice while Nadine Shnayderman and Schultz also scored to close out the 14-4 win.
