SAN DIEGO, Calif. ? The UC San Diego women's water polo team dropped a 14-7 decision against No. 7 San Diego State in the annual Harper Cup on Saturday afternoon at the Aztec Aquaplex. The Tritons led the Aztecs take a 7-1 lead after the first quarter, but played nearly even with SDSU the rest of the way. After scoring seven goals against Chapman, Sydney Gstettebauer scored four times against San Diego State. Kirsten Bates, Stephanie Heinrich and Nadine Shnayderman also scored for UCSD. The loss drops the Tritons to 10-19 on the year.
UC San Diego will now take part in the Western Water Polo Association Championships in Santa Clara on April 24-26. The winner of the WWPA's earns the conferences' automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. The seedings for the WWPA's are expected to be announced on Monday.
