SANTA BARBARA, Calif.  ?The 19th-ranked UC San Diego women's water polo team split its two games against ranked opponents on the final day of the UCSB tournament on Sunday.  UCSD ended the day with an 11-10 win over No. 16 Long Beach State.  The Tritons had lost twice to the 49ers earlier this season.  UCSD scored five second quarter goals and made a four-goal halftime lead stand for the win.  In earlier action on Sunday, the Tritons dropped an 8-5 decision to the host UCSB Gauchos.  The Tritons are now 5-11 on the season.

Against the 49ers, UCSD scored the only goal of the first quarter.  In the second, the Tritons scored five times to take a 6-2 lead into halftime.  LBSU chipped away, scoring five goals of its own in the third to trim the Triton lead down to 9-7.  LBSU would outscore UCSD 3-2 in the final quarter but it was the Tritons earning the win. 

Stephanie Heinrich and Sydney Gstettenbauer scored thee goals each while Kirsten Bates and Jessica Tran each scored two goals.  Rebecca Gearty also scored for UCSD.  Markayla Quane made 10 saves in goal.

In UCSD's 8-5 loss to UCSB, the Tritons were down 2-1 after the first quarter and tied at halftime, 3-3.  In the third quarter, UCSB outscored the Tritons 3-2 to take a 6-5 lead into the fourth quarter.  In the fourth, the Gauchos held the Tritons scoreless for the 8-5 final.  Jessica Tran's three goals and Sydney Gstettenbauer's two goals accounted for UCSD's scoring.

UCSD is back in action when it hosts Occidental on Thursday, March 12.  First sprint is set for 3:00 p.m. at Canyonview Pool.
