LA JOLLA, Calif. ? Second-ranked USC outscored No. 16 UC San Diego 6-0 in the first period and never looked back, defeating the Tritons 21-5 Friday afternoon at Canyonview Pool. Michelle Stein scored five goals and Kristen Dronberger finished with four to lead the way for the Trojans, while

Stephanie Heinrich scored two goals apiece for the Tritons.
USC improves to 16-1 overall on the season, while UCSD falls to 6-13 after losing to the top two teams in the nation in consecutive matches. The Tritons dropped an 11-5 decision to No. 1 Stanford on Tuesday.
Dronberger opened the scoring with a goal for the visitors at the 7:27 mark and three more Trojan scores in the next 1:34 gave USC an early 4-0 advantage. Stein added her second goal of the match and Dronberger scored again to give the Trojans a 6-0 cushion after the opening period.
UCSD got on the board in the second with a goal from Heinrich at the 7:06 mark and Gstettenbauer scored on a penalty shot to bring UCSD to within four, but USC scored the final five goals of the period to take a commanding 11-2 halftime lead.
USC won the third period 4-3, before outscoring UCSD 6-0 in the fourth.
The Tritons will look to get back on track when they travel to Cal State Bakersfield for two matches on Saturday. UCSD will face the host Roadrunners at 9:15 a.m., followed by a 1:00 p.m. matchup with Brown.
