LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 3rd-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team swept San Francisco State 25-15, 25-17, 25-17 on Saturday night. The Tritons hit at a .330 clip while holding the Gators to just .065. 
Sylvia Schmidt led the way with 16 kills on .583 hitting. "Sylvia continues to improve at the outside position each week," said head coach 
Tom Black. Schmidt was a middle blocker last season. 
Katie Condon added 10 kills on .364 hitting. With the win, the Tritons improve to 16-1, 8-1 California Collegiate Athletic Association, while the Gators drop to 13-4, 6-3 CCAA.
With large leads in each set, the Tritons were able to mix different lineups together as Lauren Bradley added six kills and Cara Simonsen chipped in with four kills. Karen Reis also had multiple kills with three in five attempts. Elaine Chen had 32 assists and Roxanne Brunsting added nine digs.
SFSU was led by Beth Perkins with nine kills but was limited to a .086 attack percentage.
The Tritons served up nine aces as a team, the most since recording 10 aces against Cal State L.A. on September 18. 
The Tritons hitting at a .330 clip marked the fifth time this season the Tritons have hit at least .300. UCSD's season high is a .361 clip against Chico State.
The Tritons rolled to a 6-0 lead in the first set on a Schmidt service run. SFSU got right back into the set with four straight points. With the score at 6-4 UCSD, the Tritons went on a 12-2 run helped by back-to-back Condon aces to take a commanding 18-6 lead. Condon had UCSD's last two kills of the set as the Tritons hit at a .333 clip in the set. SFSU was limited to .000 hitting as the Tritons won 25-15.
SFSU's only lead of the night came on the first point of the second set. With the Tritons leading 12-8, Schmidt and Bradley recorded kills while Chen served up an ace for a 16-8 lead. UCSD would extend the lead to 10 points at 20-10 after an SFSU error. Chen sent down the final kill of the set at 25-17. While the Tritons hit at a .231 clip, UCSD held the Gators to a -.040 percentage.
In the third set, the Tritons led 11-8 and scored four straight points after kills by Bradley and Schmidt. UCSD quickly opened up another 10 point lead at 20-10 again, after SFSU back-to-back errors. Schmidt recorded her final kill of the night to end the match at 25-17.
UCSD is back in action next week when it goes on one of the most difficult road trips of the year. The Tritons travel to Humboldt State on Friday, October 9. The next day, UCSD makes the trip to Rohnert Park to take on Sonoma State. First serve for both matches is set for 7:00 p.m.
