UC San Diego Secures Two Thrilling 7-6 Victories Saturday at Arizona State Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 19 UC San Diego women's water polo pulled out two 7-6 victories Saturday during day one of the Arizona State Invitational. The Tritons took down Cal State San Bernardino in a morning match and then defeated Cal Baptist later in the day to even their record at 13-13 this season.

Facing CSUSB, senior Judy Emaus tossed in three goals to carry UCSD's offense. The Tritons took a commanding 6-2 lead to start the game but followed that by giving up four unanswered scores as the game became tied at 6-6. A five-meter penalty shot from UCSD junior Sydney Gstettenbauer late in the fourth quarter proved to be the game-winner.

During the match with CBU, the Tritons found themselves down 6-4 in the game's later stages. UCSD rallied back in the final period and ended up taking the 7-6 win to finish the day 2-0.

On Sunday, the Tritons take on Pacific at 9 a.m. No. 7 ASU at 2:10 p.m. The contest against Pacific will be the 10th all-time meeting between the two teams. UCSD has won seven times, including the 14-6 victory just two weeks ago on the SDSU campus.
