LA JOLLA, Calif. ? Senior Judy Emaus scored a hat trick in the first quarter and ended the game with five goals to lead the No. 15 UC San Diego women's water polo team to a 9-2 victory over Colorado State at Canyonview Pool Friday evening.
The Tritons worked in passes to the two-meter position for much of the game's first eight minutes and Emaus capitalized, tossing in scores at the 7:07, 6:11 and 0:08 marks. Emaus added her fourth goal midway through the second quarter, sandwiched between scores from junior Sydney Gstettenbauer and sophomore Stephanie Bocian.
UCSD, taking a 6-0 lead into the second half of the game, eased to victory through the final 16 minutes. The Rams and Tritons traded goals over the third quarter's opening six minutes before redshirt freshman Janice Aguilar put in a score at the 1:44 to make the score 9-2.
That's where the score would stand at the final buzzer as both teams went scoreless in the final quarter. Both of Colorado State's goals came from freshman Andrea Victoria.
UCSD improved its record to 10-12 while CSU dropped to 5-14 on the season. Both squads will compete in the Aztec Invitational Saturday held on San Diego State's campus. The Tritons face off against Pacific at 8 a.m. and then take on Princeton at 3:30 p.m. later in the day. The Tigers of Pacific are 3-12 this year and are 2-6 all-time against UCSD while the Tigers of Princeton enter play at 7-5 and have gone 3-4 against the Tritons historically.
On Saturday at 8 a.m. the Tritons will challenge Pacific (3-12). UCSD owns an all-time record of 6-2 versus the Tigers.
