UCSD Sits In Eighth Place After Day One At InterWest Wildcat Classic

UCSD finishes in 11th-place at the 58th-annual Southern California Intercollegiate

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. ? The UC San Diego golf team finished in 11th-place at the 58th-annual Southern California Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon at the Marbella Country Club par-70 course in San Juan Capistrano.  Lynn University shot a three-round score of 861 to win the team title, defeating runner-up St. Edwards with an 867 score.  The individual title went to Micah Burke of Cal State San Bernardino with a 203 (-7) score.  Lucas Delgado of Chico State, Scott Aydelotte and Patricio Salem of Lynn all shot rounds of 209 (-1) to finish in a tie for second.  UCSD had one top-20 golfer in Keith Okasaki.  Okasaki finished with a 217, good for 12th-place.

 

After Okasaki, who played on the UCSD ?B' team, which finished 12th, Ryan Bailey was the top UCSD ?A' team performer with a 224 total, good for 35th-place.  Ryan Bailey finished in a tie for 40th-place with a 226 total.

 

The top finishing California Collegiate Athletic Association school was Cal State San Bernardino with an 880 total, edging Chico State with an 882 total.  CSUSB finished sixth overall, while Chico State finished seventh.

 

Okasaki connected on 10 birdies in his three rounds, that total ranked sixth-best in the field of 79 individuals.

 

UCSD is back in action on March 31 for the Grand Canyon Thunderbirds Invitational in Goodyear, Arizona.
