POMONA, Calif. ? The UC
San Diego women's tennis team rolled to its 42nd-straight California Collegiate
Athletic Association match, rolling to a 9-0 victory over Cal Poly Pomona on
Saturday afternoon at the Kellogg Tennis Courts on the CPP campus.
With the win the Tritons
improve to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in league play while the Broncos fall to 1-2
overall and 1-1 in conference action. UCSD's conference win streak dates back
to April of 2003 when Cal Poly Pomona notched the last win any CCAA team would
have against the Tritons in women's tennis play.
The Tritons bolted out to a
3-0 lead after the doubles portion of the match, winning at the No. 1 and No. 3
spots by identical 9-7 scores. Kimmi Dao and Valerie Tang combined for an 8-6
win at the No. 2 spot on the doubles ladder over Kara Fisher and Fallon
Blattner.
In singles play, UCSD won
five of the six matches in straight-sets, the lone exception came at No. 2
where Dalya Perelman dropped her first set by a 6-1 margin before winning the
next two sets by 6-1 and 10-1 scores.
Head coach Liz LaPlante's
squad will return to action tomorrow morning, hosting Division I opponent, the University of Hawaii, at 10:30 a.m. The match will be
played at the Northview Tennis Courts on the UCSD campus.
