WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ? The UC San Diego women's volleyball team had four student-athletes named to the 2008 All-California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Conference team, it was announced on Thursday afternoon. Hillary Williamson was named CCAA Freshman of the Year and second-team All-CCAA. Rebecca Bailey became UCSD's second-ever four-time All-CCAA award winner, being named to the all-conference team for the fourth consecutive season. Joining Bailey on the first-team was teammate Sylvia Schmidt. Also earning honors for the Tritons was setter Elaine Chen earning second-team honors.
Joining Williamson in the individual awards was Most Valuable Player Jessica Granados of Cal State San Bernardino, Newcomer of the Year Gabriela Bulawyczyk of Cal State L.A. and the Coach of the Year went to Bear Grassl of Sonoma State.
Williamson enters the NCAA West Regional with 209 kills, third best on the team. Williamson had nine matches with at least 10 kills this year, including a season-high 17 kills against Cal State San Bernardino, helping the Tritons upset the nation's No. 1 team. Williamson was also second on the team with 199 digs.
Bailey earns her fourth all-conference award after becoming UCSD's all-time career kills leader earlier this season. Bailey has recorded at least 10 kills in 21 matches, including 10+ kills in her last nine matches.
Schmidt earns her second All-CCAA all-conference award, leading the Tritons in hitting percentage with a .285 average. Schmidt has 14 matches this year with at least 10 kills, including a season-high 20 kills at Cal State Stanislaus.
Chen earns her first all-conference team award, leading the Tritons with 950 assists. She had a season-high 58 assists against Sonoma State and five aces in a sweep against Chico State.
