FORT COLLINS, Col. ? The 14th-ranked UC San Diego women's water polo team cruised in its 2008 opener by defeating Colorado State 20-8 on Thursday night in Fort Collins. Nine different Tritons scored as Sydney Gstettenbauer led the way with seven goals. Judy Emaus and Nicole Hermann added three scores apiece while Janice Aguilar scored twice. Kim Hockett played in goal the first half while Markayla Quane saw action between the pipes in the second half. Each goalkeeper tallied seven saves. UCSD led by a 12-2 score at halftime. Last year, UCSD faced Colorado State twice, winning each match-up by a 12-4 score.
Also scoring for UCSD included Rebecca Gearty, Bridgette Bugay, Liz Hahn, Stephanie Heinrich and Audra Bloom.
UCSD is back in action this weekend at the Michigan Kickoff Tournament in Ann Arbor. The Tritons will square off against No. 7 San Jose State at 8:00 a.m. UCSD will also face No. 1 UCLA, No. 18 Michigan and No. 11 Arizona State.
