Tritons Give Up Two Second Half Goals in 3-2 Loss to Cal State San Marcos

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's soccer team doubled its goal output for the entire season, but it was not enough as the visiting Cougars of Cal State San Marcos handed the Tritons a 3-2 loss on Friday night at Triton Soccer Field. With the loss UCSD falls to 1-5-1 overall while CSUSM improves to 4-7-0 on the season.

Felix Gonzales-Dalmas got Cal State San Marcos on the board first, netting his second goal of the season in the 35th minute, beating UCSD netminder Peter Akman off the dribble and sliding the ball into the empty net for a 1-0 lead.

Triton newcomer Jason Le knotted the score at one apiece in the 41st minute, taking a Shane Micheil pass from midfield and slotting a perfect shot into the left corner. The Vanderbilt transfer would get his second goal of the game and the season in the 56th minute on a penalty kick as CSUSM's Miguel Jacobo was given a yellow card for a foul in the penalty area.

Jacobo would redeem himself less than seven minutes later as he took the ball away from UCSD's Joshua Jackson near midfield, dribbled the rest of the way before cutting right and sliding the ball past Akman on the low left side to tie the score at 2-2. The goal was Jacobo's second of the season.

CSUSM would get the go-ahead tally in the 69th minute as Alvaro Jacobo banged a shot of the post and into the back of the net off assists from Miguel Jacobo and Chris Wyatt.

The Tritons would not get any closer as CSUSM netminder Trent Painter preserved the victory, making six saves in the match, five of which came in the second half. Akman made four saves on the night for the Tritons, all of which came in the first period.

The two Cougar goals in the second half came on only three shots while UCSD managed to take seven shots in the period and 12 overall, and only managed to find the back of the net on two occasions.

Head coach Derek Armstrong's squad will return to action on Sunday afternoon, playing host to Cal State L.A. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Triton Soccer Field.
