SANTA CRUZ, Calif. ? The 15th-ranked UC San Diego women's water polo team ended its season on a winning note by defeating 16th-ranked Santa Clara 7-5 in the third-place game at the Western Water Polo Association Championships on Sunday afternoon in Santa Cruz. Sarah Bajorek scored three times to lead the Tritons, while Natalie Hockett added two goals. The Tritons finish their season with a 19-14 overall mark.
UC San Diego (19-14) trailed 3-2 after SCU's Andrea Evans scored with 5:54 in the second quarter. UCSD then scored the next three goals to take a 5-3 lead, one they would not let go of. Hockett added two goals for UCSD. Kendra Betke scored two for Santa Clara (22-14), who finishes fourth.
Also scoring for the Tritons included Britta Nordstrom and Stephanie Bocian.
