LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The 16th ranked UC San Diego women's water polo team was overpowered by No. 2 UCLA, losing 21-3 on Friday evening at Canyonview Pool. UCLA, the defending back-to-back national champions, led from the start, scoring the first 12 goals of the game. Sydney Gstettenbauer got the Tritons on the board in the third quarter with a goal. Sarah Bajorek and Lauren Woods scored the Tritons other two goals. UCSD drop to 8-9 on the season, while the Bruins improve to 17-1. UCSD will entertain its alumni with a game on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Canyonview Pool. UCSD then takes a week off for finals week and resumes play at the Davis Shootout on March 31 and April 1.
UCLA was led by Rulon with five goals in the game. Rowe had four, while Gandy had three, Nelson, Cahill, Katie Rulon, and Belden had two each. Kunkel had UCLA's other goal.
