SEASIDE, Calif. ? The 21st-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team swept the upset-minded Cal State Monterey Bay Otters 30-18, 31-29, 30-22 on Friday night in Seaside. CSUMB was coming off an upset win last night, when it knocked-off No. 16 Cal State L.A. The Tritons were paced by Rebecca Bailey's 15 kills on .333 hitting. Sylvia Schmidt added 12 kills while Amber Ries chipped in with 10 kills. Michelle Torres (three aces) and Natalie Facchini (two aces) combined for five of UCSD's seven aces. The Tritons held off the Otters in a thrilling second game. CSUMB led 29-27 before the Tritons rallied and scored the final four points of the game for the win.
With the win, UCSD improves to 11-5, 5-3 CCAA while the Otters drop to 7-13, 5-4 CCAA. The Tritons have now won 12 straight matches in October, dating back to the 2005 season.
Also for the Tritons, Facchini tallied 20 digs, while Torres added nine digs.
UCSD returns to the court on Saturday night when it takes on Sonoma State. The Seawolves, like the Otters, pulled off an upset of their own on Friday night, also defeating No. 16 Cal State L.A. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in Rohnert Park.
