POMONA, Calif. ? The 11th-ranked UC San Diego women's volleyball team rebounded from consecutive defeats to sweep the defending CCAA co-champions 31-29, 30-18, 30-16 on Saturday night in Kellogg Gym. UCSD turned to Brianna Koche (11 kills, .550), Rebecca Bailey (11 kills, .318) and Nicole Courtney 10 kills, six digs, four aces). Setter Kim Adams added 37 assists with five aces and five digs. UCSD improves to 9-2, 4-2 CCAA while the Broncos drop to 5-6, 2-4 CCAA.
In game one, UCSD opened up a 18-14 lead before CPP would cut it down to 26-25. After a Courtney kill and a CPP error, UCSD held a 28-25 advantage, but quickly saw it evaporate into a 29-28 deficit. CPP then committed a service error and the Tritons' Courtney followed with a kill to put the Tritons back on top. A CPP attack error ended the game in favor of the Tritons at 31-29.
In game two, Kim Adams and Michelle Torres had solid serving runs to push the Tritons ahead at 15-10. UCSD would not let CPP back in this game, opening up an 11 point lead and cruising to the 30-18 win.
With the scored tied at 7-7 in game three, the Tritons scored nine unanswered points, including four consecutive aces by Courtney. UCSD would win game three 30-16.
UCSD pounded out 15 aces in the win. Adams finished with five aces, while Courtney added four and Torres added two. Natalie Facchini had a team-high 15 digs.
UCSD has a short week of rest as it hosts Cal State Dominguez Hills on Wednesday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m. in RIMAC Arena.
