LMU and UC Davis to play for WWPA Title

LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC Davis defeated Santa Clara 6-3 and LMU defeated UC San Diego 9-4 to set the table for a LMU versus UC Davis Women's Western Water Polo Association championship game at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. In other tournament games, Colorado State defeated Chapman, UC Santa Cruz defeated CSUMB, Cal State Bakersfield defeated Sonoma State and CSU San Bernardino downed CSU East Bay. The winner of the LMU and UC Davis game will earn the WWPA's automatic berth in the NCAA Championships.

 

Game Nine: Colorado State 7, Chapman 3

After a 1-1 tie through the first quarter, CSU outscored CU 3-1 in the second quarter to lead 4-2 at halftime. CSU's Laurien White scored her second goal of the game in the third to give CSU a 5-2 lead, which turned into the 7-3 win for the Rams. CSU goals: Fernandez (2), White (2), Worack, Quine, Chambers. CU goals: Carter (2), Bartel.

Game 10: UCSC 4, CSUMB 3

UCSC led after the first quarter 2-1 and extended the lead to 3-1 through three quarters. CSUMB's Alex Davis scored to cut the defecit down to one, and the Otters' Chelsea Laning tied the game at 3-3 with :41 left. UCSC's L. Dannelly-Crocker scored the game winner with :01 left. UCSC goals: Hipskind, Dannelly Crocker, Logston, Gaynor. CSUMB goals: Laning (2), Davis.

Game 11: CSUB 14, SSU 5

CSUB jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter as four different Roadrunners scored. The Roadrunners led 7-3 at halftime and outscored SSU 7-2 in the second half. CSUB goals: Ortiz (5), Baker (2), Keogh (2), BLinovskaya (2), Mason (2), Gillett. SSU goals: Phelps, McEwen, Hennan, Versage, Hoddock.

Game 12: CSUSB 12, CSUEB 7

CSUSB scored seven of the first eight goals of the game and took a commanding 9-2 lead at halftime. CSUEB outscored CSUSB 5-3 in the second half. CSUSB goals: Reneker (4), Berg (2), Freyja Berg (2), Carruthers, Mansile, Torres, Rich. CSUEB goals: Aguiniga (3), Waterman, Foley, Bourne, Campbell.

Game 13: UCD 6, SCU 3

UC Davis scored the first four goals of the game and held a 3-0 halftime lead as three different Aggies scored. SCU would not get closer than three goals the rest of the way as the Aggies advanced to the championship with the win. UCD goals: Lowe (2), Schafer, Soza, Fisher, Mota. SCU goals: Linney, Miller, Bolcolini.

Game 14: LMU 9, UCSD 4

LMU took a 4-2 lead at halftime as four different Lions scored. LMU controlled the second half, outscoring UCSD 5-2. LMU will go for its sixth consecutive WWPA title against UC Davis. LMU goals: Hicks (2), Tomiuk (2), Hughes (2), Colton, Hamilton, O'Farriell. UCSD goals: Hockett (2), Frazer, Emaus.
