Tritons Lose to No. 1 Anteaters

Irvine, Calif. ? The UC San Diego men's volleyball team lost to No. 1 UC Irvine 30-23, 30-20, 30-21 on Thursday night as the Anteaters won their 16th in a row. UCSD was led by Chris Sayers and John Mark Wendler with eight kills apiece. Jon Daze had seven kills and four digs. Joe Sexton had a match-high nine digs and was perfect with 22 receptions without an error. UCI was led by Aaron Harrell who hit .818 with nine kills and Matt Webber with 13 kills. The loss drops UCSD to 1-22, 0-17 MPSF while the Anteaters improve to 22-3, 15-2 MPSF.

UCI led 19-12 in game one when UCSD went on a 7-2 run to close within 21-19, but that is as close as they would come as UCI went on to a 30-23 victory.

Game two was tied 6-6 before UCI peeled off five straight points to take the 11-6 lead capped by an Aaron Harrell kill. The Anteaters would continue to roll until another kill by Harrell ended the game 30-20.

The Anteaters jumped out to a 4-1 lead in game three and went onto to take the set 30-21 and the match 3-0.

UCSD is back in action on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. against UCLA in Los Angeles, Calif.
