CLAREMONT, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's and women's track & field teams took part in the 10th annual Rossi Relays on Saturday, their first official competition of the 2006 season. Both teams fared well, including the women's 4x800 meter relay team who set a new meet and stadium record with a time of 9:14.71, nearly eight seconds faster than the second place team.
Mike Cunningham and Jon Patton took the top two spots in the men's 400 meter hurdles with Cunningham winning in a time of 52.98 while Patton finished second in a time of 53.10.
Brad Libuit captured the men's javelin and finished second in the high jump, in one of the better individual performances of the day. His distance of 198'-00" was nearly eight feet better than second place Nate Flemming of Westmont College. His height of 6'-08" was only two inches behind the winner Nathan Gwozdz of USC.
The Tritons had two women finish in a tie for third in the pole vault as Donna LeFever and Madeline Flint both posted heights of 11'-04".
Additionally, Elisa Holiday finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 17'-05.25" while Torrey Trust finished third in the women's long jump with a distance of 36'-07.00".
Both teams return to action next Saturday at the All-Cal Championships hosted by UC Irvine on Saturday, March 4 at 10:00 a.m.
