LA JOLLA, Calif -The UC San Diego men's volleyball team lost to No. 1 BYU 16-30, 23-30, 19-30 on Thursday night in RIMAC Arena. The loss drops UCSD to 1-11, 0-8 MPSF while the Cougars improve to 11-2, 9-2 MPSF. Mike Reuter led UCSD with six kills and Brenden Bowe added five kills. Brooks Dierdorff added 16 assists in two games while Adam Covington had six assists on seven UCSD kills in the final game. Joe Sexton led the Tritons with four digs in two games played. BYU was led by Taylor Evans with 13 kills without an error.
In game one, BYU did not commit an error and sent down 19 kills in 25 attempts to take game one 30-16.
In game two, BYU led 17-8 vefore the Tritons cut the lead down to 13-19 on a BYU attack error. UCSD could not pull closer than six points the rest of the game, playing even and dropping game two 30-23.
UCSD kept it close in game three, trailing 15-12. BYU would slowly pull away and lead 27-19 on a Trent Sorensen kill. BYU won game three on a UCSD attack error.
The UC San Diego volleyball team is back in action on Saturday, February 18 when it hosts BYU in an MPSF match at 7:00 p.m. in RIMAC Arena.
