Tritons Conclude Season with 2-0 Loss at Cal State Monterey Bay

MONTEREY, Calif. ? The UC San Diego men's soccer team lost its 2006 season-finale on Sunday afternoon, dropping a 2-0 decision at Cal State Monterey Bay. With the loss UCSD's record falls to 7-10-2 overall and 5-9-2 in CCAA play while CSUMB improves to 2-15-2 overall while picking up their first conference win and running their CCAA record to 1-14-1.

UCSD stumbled over the final half of its season, posting a 1-9-1 record over the final 11 matches, scoring only three goals in a span that dates back to September 22.

The Otters got a goal from Ben DeVoll in the 25th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Juan Gutierrez and Andy Breault assisted on the goal that was sent into the top right corner from 10 yards out after a crossing pass.

Kyle Satow gave CSUMB an insurance goal just 24 seconds into the second half, taking passes from DeVoll and Gutierrez before blasting the shot into the back of the net from 10 yards out. The play began on a penalty re-start following a UCSD foul.

The game was marred by seven yellow cards and two red cards. The Tritons had four yellow cards and one of the red cards.

UCSD out-shot CSUMB by a 14-11 margin, but both teams had six shots on goal, two of which were converted by the Otters.

The 10 losses in 2006 represents the first time since the 1981 season that a UCSD men's soccer team has posted double-digit losses. Cal State Monterey Bay's only other positive result in CCAA play this year came in the 1-1, double overtime tie at San Francisco State on September 20.
