UCSD Plays to Scoreless Draw with Humboldt State on Sunday Afternoon

LA JOLLA, Calif. ? The UC San Diego men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with Humboldt State University at Triton Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon in front of 757 spirited fans. With the tie, the Tritons' record goes to 6-4-2 overall and 4-3-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play while the Lumberjacks' record goes to 8-3-2 overall and 4-3-2 in league action.

The draw snaps a three-match losing streak for UCSD and a two-match win streak for HSU.

The Tritons, who out-shot the Lumberjacks by a 16-7 margin on the day, hit the frame of the goal on three different occasions, including one late in the contest. HSU netminder Drew Ryan made five saves on the day to preserve the tie for HSU while UCSD goalkeeper Luis Salazar needed to make only one save on the afternoon to help his team earn a valuable point in league play.

The Tritons also held a slim advantage in corner kicks, 5-3, while also committing four more fouls in a very aggressive contest. UCSD was whistled for 20 fouls and two yellow cards while the ?Jacks picked up 16 fouls and were booked once.

The scoreless draw was the first of the year for the Tritons and second in 2006 for HSU.

UCSD returns to action next week with three road matches, beginning on Wednesday evening in Carson, Calif. The Tritons will square off with CCAA South Division rivals #24 Cal State Dominguez Hills at 4:30 p.m. before traveling to Cal Poly Pomona and to Cal State San Bernardino on Friday and Sunday afternoons, respectively.
