The UC San Diego women's volleyball team edged Point Loma in five games (24-30, 30-21, 30-22, 30-32, 15-5) on Tuesday night. With the win, the Tritons improve to 4-0, while the Sea Lions drop to 3-2. UCSD was led by Brianna Koche and Kimberly Carpenter with 18 kills apiece. Carpenter also added four aces, while Natalie Facchini, Rebecca Bailey and Nicole Courtney added three apiece. The Tritons dominated game five by hitting .400 with eight kills and no errors while PLNU hit -.053 as UCSD won the rubber game 15-5. UCSD's Facchini had 28 digs to pace the Tritons. PLNU was led by Kate Alderson with 16 kills.

In game one, PLNU took an 11-10 lead and would not look back. The Tritons would close late to 23-21, but the Sea Lions pulled away and finished game one 30-24 on two aces by Connie Irwin.

In game two, UCSD called timeout trailing 12-10. The Tritons then rallied to take the lead 20-13 on a PLNU attack error. UCSD scored the final two points of the game on kills by Koche to win 30-21.

UCSD took game three by outhitting PLNU .269-.189.

Game four was the closest contest of the night as the teams were tied at 28, 29 and 30. PLNU then got back-to-back kills from Acklin and Megan Walls to force game five.

The Tritons controlled game five from the start as Carpenter served to set up the 5-0 advantage. After a PLNU attack error, the score stood at 8-2 UCSD when the teams changed courts. UCSD put the Sea Lions away on a Carpenter kill, 15-5.

Five Tritons reached double figures in kills. Koche and Carpenter with 18 apiece, Nicole Courtney with 16 kills and 15 digs, Amber Ries with 13 kills and Rebecca Bailey with 10 kills. Facchini led with 28 digs, Lauren Chiodini added 12 digs, Laura Watkins had 11 and Kim Adams had 10 digs and 58 assists. UCSD is back in action on Thursday September 8 when it hosts Grand Canyon in RIMAC Arena. First serve is set for 7pm.
