Carol Welcher

Carol Welcher was named an assistant coach with the UC San Diego women's volleyball program in July of 2016.

Welcher comes to UCSD with nearly 20 years of coaching and playing experience at the national, collegiate, club and high school levels.

Currently, Welcher is the coach and director of the girls varsity volleyball program at Meter Dei Catholic High School in Chula Vista. She also coaches for La Jolla Volleyball Club and Beach Dig, both located in San Diego. 

In addition, Welcher serves as a volunteer technical director for the U.S. Women's National Team. She held a similar position with Team USA during the 2015 Pan-Am Cup in Lima, Peru.

During the 2014 season, Welcher was the Director of Player Development for San Diego State's women's volleyball team.

Welcher has also spent time coaching with the La Jolla Country Day Beach Program, La Jolla Country Day School and Torrey's Volleyball Club. Internationally, she coached with VBC Biel-Bienne in Switzerland and T2 Volleyball Club in Canada.

As a player, Welcher competed in four years of professional indoor volleyball in Finland, France, Germany and Switzerland. She also spent seven years on the AVP's beach tour.

No stranger to the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), Welcher competed at Cal State Dominguez Hills during the 2001 and 2004 seasons. In 2000, she was a member of Grossmont College's volleyball team and began her collegiate career at Alliant International in 1999.

Welcher earned an associate's degree from Grossmont College and is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree while studying communications. She is a 1999 graduate of San Diego High School and played volleyball while also competing in track and field and softball.
