Rafael Asvolinsque

Rafael Asvolinsque enters his second season as an assistant coach with the UC San Diego women's volleyball program in 2025.

Asvolinsque came to the Tritons after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at Point Loma Nazarene in 2022 and 2023. During his tenure at PLNU, Asvolinsque helped the Sea Lions to the program’s first PacWest Championship in 2023. 
 
In 2021, he served as volunteer assistant at the University of San Diego. Locally, he has also served as a head coach for Coast Volleyball Club for the past four years (2020-2024). 
 
On the beach, Asvolinsque has served as a volunteer coach and scrimmage athlete for several Olympic pairings. Most recently, he worked with Tokyo Olympic champions April Ross and Alix Klineman in 2020-21. 
 
A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Asvolinsque began playing volleyball at 11 years old as both an indoor and beach athlete. He has played alongside some of Brazil’s top-rated players, including Olympic Medalists and World Champions.
 
He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and management at Rio de Janeiro’s Pontifical Catholic University and certificate degree in sports coaching from San Diego University for Integrative Studies (SDUIS).
