Zachary Gebhardt was named an assistant coach with the University of California men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs in October of 2018. The 2020-21 season is his third with the Tritons.

In the Triton's final season in Division II, Gebhardt helped lead both the men's and women's teams to a number one ranking in the CSCAA polls during the 2019-20 season. A total of 26 athletes earned All-American honors including Spencer Daily who became the first National Champion since 2014.

During the 2018-19 season, Gebhardt helped the Tritons to 31 All-America accolades as well as 23 All-America honorable mentions at the NCAA Championships.

Gebhardt came to La Jolla from the University of Mount Union, where he served as an Assistant Swim Coach and Recruitment Coordinator for over two years. He coached the men’s team to a 10-1 season and a third-place finish at the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championships, and the women’s team to a second-place finish at the OAC Championships.

While at the Championships, the Raiders set seven individual and two relay school records. Six swimmers qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships under Gebhardt, with one becoming an All-American in the 500 free.

During the summer, Gebhardt assisted with Stanford University’s International Swim Camp. He designed and led daily dryland sessions for campers, provided on-deck coaching, and presented video review of drills in the classroom.

Prior to his time at Mount Union, Gebhardt coached various club and high school swim teams in Pennsylvania. His teams included Moon Aqua Club, Moon Area High School, and Allegheny Mountain Swimming.

Gebhardt began his coaching career while obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Westminster College. He served as the team’s assistant coach while also a full-time student. Gebhardt went on to complete a fellowship with the American Swimming Coaches Association.
