Mike Travers joined the University of California San Diego men's and women's swimming and diving staff as an assistant coach in late October of 2017. The 2017-18 season was his first on the Canyonview Aquatic Center deck.

Travers is a swimming veteran who switched coasts from Rockville Centre, N.Y. He was in charge of the Division II women's program at LIU Post for two seasons, earning Metropolitan Conference Coach of the Year distinction upon his return to the Brookville, N.Y., campus as head coach in 2015-16. Travers previously served as an assistant there from 2002-13, as well as at Army in 2013-14, and with Team Suffolk Swim Club. He is also a retired New York City firefighter of over 20 years.
