Ambert Sawaya joined the University of California San Diego men's and women's swimming and diving coaching staff as a volunteer assistant ahead of the 2017-18 season.

The appointment marks a return home to San Diego for the Chula Vista native who graduated from The Bishop's School in La Jolla. Sawaya spent the past four years as a swimmer at NCAA Division III powerhouse Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. During his time with the Lords, Kenyon won national titles in 2014 and 2015 ahead of a pair of runner-up placements in 2016 and 2017.
