AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2010: Played in five matches and six sets, the same playing time he had in 2009… Had his first career start vs. Stanford (3/26)… Collected his lone kill, dig and point of the season in that match. 

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2009: Saw limited action in his first season on the La Jolla campus, playing in six sets and five matches... Set a majority of his career-highs against Grand Canyon (4/18) with four kills on .333 hitting, three blocks and 5.5 points… Had a pair of kills at BYU (2/21).

CLUB: A member of the Balboa Bay Volleyball Club team from 2005-07... Balboa Bay 16s won a gold medal at the 2006 Junior Olympics… The 18s squad took a bronze medal at the 2007 Junior Olympics… Also played club soccer.

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2007 graduate of Tesoro in Las Flores, Calif.... As a senior, named to All-CIF Southern Section Division I Team and tabbed an All-South Coast League selection… Also named to the 2007 Orange County High School All-Star Team… Volleyball team advanced to the CIF South Section DII semifinals in 2006 and the quarterfinals in 2007.

PERSONAL: Born Sept. 9, 1989... Parents are Paul and Mary Spitsen... Father is a graduate of Cal State Fullerton while his mother graduated from the University of Minnesota... His grandfather, Paul Gustafson, played professional football for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Canada... An international studies major in Sixth College... Hobbies include snowboarding, soccer and scuba diving.
