Ted Summers-Torres

The 2014 season is the first for Ted Summers-Torres as an assistant coach with the UC San Diego men's volleyball program.

Alongside his duties at UCSD, Summers-Torres is a founder, coach and current director of the newly-formed boy's program at San Diego's COAST Volleyball Club. In its inaugural season this past year, he coached the 18 Quiksilver team to the club's first medal in the open division at the USA Volleyball Junior Olympics, which took place in Reno, Nev. In 2010, Summers-Torres guided the Seaside VBC 17-1 to gold at the Junior Olympics in Austin, Texas.

Previously, Summers-Torres was a part of several winning seasons as an area high school coach. He helped lead Cathedral Catholic High School to three consecutive Western League and CIF San Diego Section Division III crowns, the last one as the head coach in 2012. They were the Dons' first CIF championships since 2003, when Summers-Torres played for what was then known as University of San Diego High School.

Summers-Torres has also coached a number of years at the junior college level with San Diego Mesa College, San Diego City College and Grossmont College, earning a pair of conference titles as an assistant with the women's program at Mesa in 2009 and 2010.

A San Diego native, Summers-Torres is a 2008 graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. He was a setter and libero for the Division I Cardinals from 2004-07.
