UC San Diego

Danny Hughes comes to UCSD after serving as both the director and head coach of the Beach and Bay Volleyball Club in San Diego for the last three years. He oversaw all aspects of the club, including the recruitment of seven teams, coordination of coaching staffs, and maintenance of finances.

In addition to his role with Beach and Bay, Hughes also served as an assistant coach for both the men and women's programs at Mesa Community College in 2008-09 and was a boys' varsity assistant coach at Francis Parker High School from 2007-09. He helped guide the Lancers to a CIF Division IV title and runner-up finish at the state championships last season. Prior to his stint at FPHS, he served as head coach of the Club Santa Barbara 17-1's Boys' Junior Olympic Team.

Hughes was a four-year letterwinner at UC Santa Barbara from 1998-2002, where he was a National Golden Eagle Recipient. He went on to play in the Australian Volleyball League for two seasons with the Sydney Lions and Sydney Frogs.

A native of San Diego, Hughes graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2003 with a degree in English. He then received an MBA in International Brand Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Ariz.
