Andy Aguinaldo enters his fifth year with the UCSD men’s basketball program overall and fourth in the capacifty of assistant coach. He served as the Director of Basketball Operations under former Triton head coach Bill Carr during his first year in 2004-05 and was promoted to second assistant coach prior to the start of the 2005-06 campaign.

Alongside head coach Chris Carlson and fellow assistant coach Eric Olen, Aguinaldo coached the Tritons to an 18-12 overall record last season, which was UCSD’s best finish since the 1998-1999 campaign. The Tritons played their best basketball in the postseason, winning the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament to claim an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II tourney for the first time in program history.

Aguinaldo helped guide UCSD to a 15-14 overall record in his first year as an assistant coach in 2005-2006. The Tritons finished in a tie for fourth place in the highly compeitive CCAA, posting the program’s first-ever winning season in league play with a mark of 12-8.

Aguinaldo graduated from the University of LaVerne in 1992 with a BS in Business Management. He earned a Master’s degree in Sports Management from the United States Sports Academy in 2001. His basketball background extends back to his high school playing days at Santa Maria High School, where he helped his team to the Northern League Championship. He would go on to become an assistant coach at his alma mater in 1994.
