Tritons Control the Match in Shutout Win Over Pacific

LA JOLLA, Calif. — UC San Diego (3-1-1) earned a 2-0 victory over Pacific (0-4-0) Sunday afternoon at Triton Soccer Stadium. The Tritons controlled the match from start to finish, outshooting the Tigers, 28-4, and placing 10 shots on target while recording a clean sheet as UC San Diego continued its strong start to the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego established an offensive presence early, with Chloe Yates testing the Pacific defense twice within the opening 14 minutes. Both attempts were turned away, but the Tritons continued to apply pressure.

The breakthrough came in the 31st minute when Alexis Nguyen found the back of the net at 30:24. Molly Blom and Leilah Raad provided assists on the game-opening goal, giving the Tritons a 1-0 advantage.
UC San Diego continued to dictate the pace through the remainder of the opening period, generating opportunities while limiting Pacific's offensive chances. The Tritons carried their one-goal advantage into halftime.

The Tritons' defense opened the second period with a strong stand, as Charlotte Wilfert came up with a key save to preserve the lead.

UC San Diego continued to pressure the Pacific defense, with Kennadi Borg and Blom each recording shots as the Tritons looked to add to their advantage.

The Tritons doubled their lead in the 69th minute when Lana Gilligan converted a penalty kick, giving UC San Diego a 2-0 cushion.
UC San Diego continued to control the tempo down the stretch, with Borg and Nguyen each forcing additional saves. The Tritons' defense held firm through the final whistle to secure the shutout victory.
