LA JOLLA, Calif. – Sophomore slugger Maalia Cherry continues to add to her historic season after being named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region Third Team as a designated player.
Cherry delivered one of the most dominant offensive seasons in program history during her breakout sophomore campaign. The Hayward, California native shattered the school's single-season home run record with 15 home runs, breaking a 19-year-old mark. She also tied the program record for RBIs in a season with 50, matching a record that had stood for eight years.
One of the conference's top offensive threats all season, Cherry led the Big West Conference in RBIs, walks, and home runs while finishing among the league leaders in slugging percentage and on-base percentage. Her plate discipline also placed her ninth in program history in walks during a single season.
Cherry's standout season previously earned her First Team All-Big West recognition, further cementing her place among the conference's elite players.
