Gauchos Earn Walk-Off Win Over UC San Diego

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — UC San Diego (10-13, 0-3 Big West) fell 5-2 to UC Santa Barbara (12-14, 3-0 Big West) at Campus Diamond on Sunday afternoon in the final contest of the three-game Big West series. UCSB's Emily Carr hit a three-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh to win it for the Gauchos.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego got off to a great start, scoring twice in the first. The inning was highlighted by Zara Wasserman's two-run homer to center field following Maalia Cherry's single.

Throughout the game, the Tritons had moments to reclaim the lead, particularly in the sixth inning when they loaded the bases with just one out. However, the rally was extinguished without scoring, leaving the Tritons unable to extend their lead beyond the initial burst.

Wasserman led the Tritons with two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs. Cherry contributed to the offense by scoring one run and adding a hit and a walk. Center fielder Haley Garcia recorded a hit in her three at-bats.

Freshman Bella Settembro pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and one walk without giving up any runs, throwing 42 pitches with 24 strikes. Zoë Rutherford followed with 2 2/3 innings, yielding three hits and two earned runs, while striking out one and walking one on 44 pitches.
