Tremper Smacks First Homer, Tritons Fall to CBU

LA JOLLA, Calif. — Playing its first home game in more than three weeks, UC San Diego fell to California Baptist 9-1 in a five-inning game Tuesday evening at Triton Softball Field. The Tritons dropped to 10-14 with the setback, while the Lancers improved to 20-8 with the victory. UC San Diego's lone run came via a solo home run from third baseman Jackie Tremper – the first of her career. CBU posted five runs in the fifth inning to secure the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
California Baptist's decisive fifth inning broke open a close contest against UC San Diego. The inning began with a string of singles and a walk, setting the stage for a series of run-scoring plays. Ashlee Annett delivered a crucial RBI single, driving in one run, and a subsequent RBI single by Victoria Macias extended the lead. The inning continued with a sacrifice bunt by Sydney Peterson and a single by Stevie Robison, bringing the score to 9-1 in favor of the Lancers.

Trailing by a pair, UC San Diego got on the board in the second inning when Tremper hit a solo home run to left field, narrowing the gap to 2-1. A chance to capitalize was thwarted in the first inning when an error loaded the bases, but a pop-up and lineout ended the threat. The inability to convert base runners into runs proved costly as the game progressed.

In addition to Tremper's solo homer, Dylan Kunkle added a double and Haley Garcia reached base three times with one hit and two walks. Ryanna Alano collected a hit in two plate appearances, maintaining pressure on the opposing defense.
