Tritons Earn Series Victory Over Riverside

UC San Diego took the Sunday finale with the Highlanders, 14-10

LA JOLLA, Calif. — UC San Diego baseball secured a 14-10 victory over UC Riverside on Sunday afternoon in Triton Ballpark. The Tritons (9-11, 5-1 Big West) used a decisive 10-run third inning to pull in front of the Highlanders (7-16, 2-4 Big West) and eventually earn the series win, 2-1.
 
Five Tritons recorded multi-hit performances, led by Addison Klepsch with two doubles and three RBI. Michael Crossland hit a home run and added three RBI, while Nick Costello tallied two runs and two RBI. Trevian Martinez went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, two runs, one RBI and three walks, while J.C. Allen had two hits, two RBI, one run and a double.
 
Austin Bowker started for UC San Diego, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing six earned runs on four hits, including a home run, while striking out two and walking two. Nathan Ries (1-2) earned the victory out of the bullpen, delivering 2.2 innings with one earned run on five hits, striking out one and issuing two walks. Devon King closed out the game with a strong performance, pitching a scoreless inning, striking out two and allowing only one hit.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
UC Riverside took an early lead in the third inning, scoring three runs on two hits for a 3-0 advantage. The Tritons responded in the bottom of the inning in a big way, with UC San Diego's offense erupting with a total of 10 runs. Crossland scored on a bases-loaded walk by Alex Leopard, followed by Gabe Camacho scoring through a walk by Martinez. Costello then delivered a two-RBI single, scoring Allen and Leopard. Klepsch contributed with a two-RBI double, bringing in Martinez and Costello. Crossland's walk with the bases loaded added another run, and Camacho's sacrifice fly to left field scored Klepsch. Allen closed the inning with a two-RBI ground-rule double, bringing home Anthony Potestio and Crossland. The inning concluded with the Tritons leading 10-3.
 
The Highlanders got three runs back in the fourth inning, but UC San Diego responded once again. Nathaniel Widelski's sacrifice fly allowed Martinez to score. Klepsch then doubled to left center, scoring Costello. This extended the Tritons' lead to 12-6.
 
The sixth inning saw an RBI single for UCR, before Crossland hit a two-run homer, scoring Potestio. The Tritons' lead grew to 14-7.
 
The Highlanders attempted a comeback in the eighth inning with two home runs, but the Tritons maintained their lead, ending the inning at 14-10.
 
The game concluded with UC San Diego securing a 14-10 victory over UC Riverside.
