HOW IT HAPPENED
Oregon secured a 6-0 victory over UC San Diego in a game marked by strong pitching and timely hitting from the Ducks. The game remained scoreless through the first four innings as both teams struggled to generate offense.
Â
Seneres retired the first seven batters he faced before allowing a one-out single in the top of the third. He got out of the inning unscathed with a pop-out and a fly-out and allowed just one other base runner through his four-inning appearance.
Â
In the fifth inning, Oregon's Jack Brooks broke the stalemate with a three-run homer to deep right field after back-to-back singles for the Ducks. This gave Oregon a 3-0 lead after five innings.
Â
The Tritons were retired in order through the first three innings, before
Nick Costello drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the sixth. However, a fly-out and an inning-ending double play kept the Tritons off the board. Oregon's Miles Gosztola kept the Tritons bats quiet through 7 2/3 innings before Camacho broke up the no-hitter in with a two-out single through the right side.Â
Â
Oregon added a run in the eighth via solo home run, and two more in the ninth with another solo shot and an RBI double to make it 6-0.
Â
Anthony Potestio was the only base runner for the Tritons in the final two innings. UC San Diego's shortstop drew a two-out walk in the ninth, but the Tritons came up empty on the base paths.
