Tritons Defeated by Long Beach State in Big West Action

LA JOLLA, CALIF. - In a Big West water polo game Friday, No. 16 UC San Diego fell to No. 8 Long Beach State by a score of 19-11 at Canyonview Aquatic Center.

The Tritons dropped to 7-9 overall and 2-3 in the conference. The Beach improved to 10-9 and 3-1.

The scoring commenced in the first quarter with UC San Diego's Anna Fazioli finding the net, but LBSU quickly responded with goals from Daniela Quinzada and Lucy Miszewski. By the end of the first period, LBSU held a slight lead of 4-3.

In the second period, the Beach extended its lead, netting five goals while the Tritons netted four to make it 9-7 in favor of the visitors at halftime.

The third quarter saw Long Beach State pull away decisively, scoring six goals to UC San Diego's two. The Beach owned a commanding 15-9 lead entering the final frame.

The Tritons added two more goals in the fourth, but Long Beach State had four to account for the final score.

UC San Diego was paced by Emily Cloherty and Sofia Munatones, who racked up four points apiece. Both Tritons finished with two goals and a pair of assists. Sydney Munatones contributed three points with a goal and two assists. Freshman Caitlin Stayt scored twice.

For LBSU, Elisa Portillo dropped seven points with four goals and three assists. Chiara Amoroso, Elyana Goren, Miszewski, and Quinzada all registered hat tricks as well.
