PHOENIX, Ariz. – UC San Diego (5-8) fell to Grand Canyon (11-1) 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the GCU Tennis Facility. UC San Diego secured a singles win at the No. 5 position, while Grand Canyon captured the doubles point, and claimed five singles matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego dropped the doubles point despite some close competition across the courts.
Abhinav Chunduru and
Trevor Nguyen fell at No. 1 doubles, 3-6, while
Andrew Beceiro and
Prathinav Chunduru were defeated at No. 2 doubles, 1-6. The match at No. 3 doubles featuring
Trey Fourticq and
Oliver Worth remained unfinished with a score of 4-5.
In singles play, A. Chunduru secured the lone victory for the Tritons at No. 5 singles with a straight-set win, 6-2, 6-3. Worth faced a challenging match at No. 1 singles, concluding with a 1-6, 0-6 result. At No. 3 Nguyen played a competitive match, narrowly losing in a second-set tiebreak, 4-6, 6-7(3).
The remaining singles matches saw P. Chunduru battling at No. 2 singles, ultimately falling 6-7, 2-6.
David Adamson and
Yaron Guberman also competed at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, ending with scores of 1-6, 4-6 and 2-6, 6-2, 1-6, respectively.
