Long Beach State Edges Out Tritons in Big West Face Off

LONG BEACH, Calif. – UC San Diego faced Big West opponent #52 Long Beach State, on Friday afternoon, resulting in a 3-4 loss that moved the Tritons to 0-2 in conference play (4-7 overall) and the Beach to 2-0 (5-4 overall). Long Beach State took the doubles point before the Tritons' first singles point came at No. 4. Long Beach responded with three singles points of their own to clinch the match and the Tritons finished it off by earning victories at No. 2 and No. 1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Long Beach State captured the doubles point after No. 3 and No.2 were split, with Kamya Nair and Gamracy dropping their court 0-6 and Allison Lian and Alisa Lansky taking theirs, 6-1. No. 1 went to the Beach 6-4 and clinched the doubles point to begin singles.
 
Gamracy earned the Tritons first point with a retirement by her opponent. At No. 3 Lansky was topped 6-3, 6-2. The Beach then claimed No. 5 with a tight 6-3, 6-4 victory over Lian. The next two courts to finish went to tiebreakers but were taken in straight sets. At No. 6 Julia Visaya was defeated 6-3, 7-6(8), which also clinched the match for Long Beach State. Carling Allaye-Chan then took her court 7-6(5), 6-4 to add to the Tritons total. In a three-set comeback victory, Olivia Allegre defeated her opponent, 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-3 to round out the match.
